Pennie provides different plan levels in categories called “metal tiers.” These are Gold, Silver, Bronze, Platinum, and Catastrophic plans.
These categories are based on how the cost of health care services are split between the health insurance company and the customer. Generally, the lower the metal tier, the lower the premium and higher the deductible. The higher the metal tier, the higher the premium but lower the deductible and other out-of-pocket costs.
Bronze plans generally have higher costs to access health care services, but your monthly premium will likely be lower. Silver and Gold plans are in the middle where Platinum plans will pay a higher monthly premium and pay less when accessing health care services.
*Platinum plans are only available in certain regions in Pennsylvania
If you qualify for Cost Sharing Reductions to lower copays and deductibles, you must enroll in a Silver plan to use this benefit.
NOTE: Catastrophic plans are available to those under 30 and mostly only cover emergencies.
