The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 will continue to reduce the cost of health coverage for Pennie customers through the 2022 Plan Year. Please note that some of the financial assistance that may have been applied to 2021 coverage cannot be carried over to 2022 coverage. This is neither due to an error by Pennie or the insurer. It is due to the expiration of certain American Rescue Plan benefits. As a result, the amount of advance premium tax credits (APTC) and cost-sharing reductions (CSR) available to customers each month during the 2022 Plan Year may be lower than what is being applied today.
The American Rescue Plan provided Pennie customers indicating eligibility for unemployment insurance in 2021 with access to the maximum amount of APTC and CSR available to them for the remainder of the 2021 plan year. As this provision will expire on December 31, 2021, it will not apply for 2022 coverage. Pennie will continue to provide customers with the maximum financial assistance to which they are entitled; however, with the expiration of these benefits, financial assistance may look different from what customers may be receiving in 2021.
