When it comes to questions like deciding when to file, everyone’s circumstances are different. If you have specific tax questions, you should consult a licensed tax professional.
Under the American Rescue Plan, individuals who received advance premium tax credits (APTC) in 2020 will not be required to payback any excess APTC they received when they submit their 2020 tax return. However, as in past years, you will still receive any additional Premium Tax Credits (PTC) you were eligible for in 2020, but did not take in advance, in the form of a tax refund.
To learn more about the process for filing and reconciling any APTC you received last year, and how it relates to the American Rescue Plan, you can access the following resource from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) - Premium Tax Credit: Claiming the Credit and Reconciling Advance Credit Payments.
